The history of Fantasy Football actually began several years before the first fantasy team was selected. Although the exact details seem to differ according to who is telling the story, there is no doubt that it was one Wilfred Winkenbach that first had the idea of a fantasy sport, wherein participants would formulate their own teams and determine the success or otherwise of these teams by means of the statistics of the individual team members.

Golf Came First!

In fact, it was not football but golf that was the first sport to be played under fantasy rules. Wilfred Winkenbach devised fantasy golf in the latter part of the 1950s, in which each player selected a team of professional golfers and the person with the lowest combined total of stokes at the end of the tournament would win. Golf is a simple fantasy game to administer and keep tabs on, since you are concerned only with the scores of your team members without anything else to complicate it.

As with many breakthrough ideas, the concept was simple and it was extended to baseball before Winkenbach had the idea of fantasy football. This was not surprising, since he was part owner of Oakland Raiders at the time – in fact, what WAS surprising was that he developed fantasy golf and baseball before fantasy football! The football idea came to him on a wet October evening in 1962, when he discussed his idea with the Oakland Raiders PR man Bill Tunnell and the Oakland Tribune sports journalist, Scotty Stirling.

Early Scoring System

They were actually spending the night in a Manhattan hotel during a Raiders’ tour. The original idea was formulated into a football league comprising eight teams, and they also formulated a points scoring system somewhat different to the norm whereby 25 points were awarded for a field goal, a passing touchdown or a touchdown reception. Ten points were given for an extra point, and a massive 200 points for a kick-off, punt or pick-six. The scoring system has changed over the years, and various leagues now have their own scoring systems which offer fewer points than the above.

Running

In earlier days, football was just a game that the name suggests. The players moved the ball by kicking it with their feet. Gradually, as high schools and colleges took up the game during the 1800′s, it became popular to pick up the ball and run with it. Later, throwing the ball through the air from one player to another won its place in the strategy of the game.

However, of these three basic forms of moving the ball – kicking, running, and passing – running with the ball must be regarded as the most important. Running plays are used most frequently and there are a greater variety of them.

Just a word about your equipment. Do not try any blocking or tackling without proper and complete uniforms, including well-padded helmets. The sandlot, or the corner playground, or your back yard, are all good spots to practice your football maneuvers and to have your neighborhood games, but always remember – no blocking and no tackling without full uniforms!

The Poland/Ukraine bid was elected by UEFA on the 18th April 2007. The bid of Poland/Ukraine is higher than that of Italy and Croatia/Hungary. It had been decided that the EURO 2012 will be held at Arena Football Gdansk. Arena Football Gdansk is also called PGE Arena Gdansk.

The EUFA 2012 tournament is the last European Championship that will be participated by 16 nations. The next EUFA Championship which is Euro 2016 will have 24 participating nations. Oleksandr Lukyanchenko announced that most of the funding of the EUFA Championship will be derived from the municipal budgets.

 

The stadium where the EUFA 2012 will be held is going to be built by Max Boegl. Max Boegl is a contractor based in Wroclaw. The headquarter of Max Boegl is in the Polish city of Wroclaw. Previously, the construction contract of the stadium belongs to Mostostal Warszawa. Wroclaw ended the contract because of the delays in the stadium construction. Mostostal Warszawa had already delayed the construction of the stadium for 4 months. The Mayor of Wroclaw, Rafal Dutkevich said that the termination of the contract will not affect the implementation of the stadium operation for the EUFA 2012 championship.  According to Rafal, he decided to terminate the contract because he saw that the Mostostal Warszawa is unable to finish the construction project. Mostostal appealed for the termination of the contract by arguing that the delay is caused by a factor that cannot be controlled by the company.

The next team to mention is the Greenbay Packers, as they have won the Championship more times than any other NFL team – a total of 12 times. They were founded in 1919 by Earl Lambeau, hence the name of the field where the team plays, Lambeau Field. They have won the Super Bowl three times with the first two being consecutive with victory in the Super Bowl I and II in 1967 and 1968. The packers pride themselves to e the only non-profit team that is community owned in the professional major leagues in the United States. Their rivals are the Chicago Bears who they have competed against I over 170 games, other rivals include the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys.
